An Immortal Classic of 16th Century, Jataka Parijata is a well-known authoritative treatise on Hindu Astrology that hardly needs any introduction. It has been studied as a text book on the subject in all parts of the country for nearly eight centuries. Its'''''''' importance lies in the fact that it is a condensation of the voluminous Horas of Garga, Parasara and others, many of which are not available completely now and the later works like Brihat Jataka, Saravali etc., and presents all that is essential and valuable in them judiciously brought together. The sections of Yogas, Ayurdaya, Bhavaphala, Kalachakra Dasa and Vimshottari Dasa are simply masterpieces, a study of which no student of Astrology should miss. It is a unique work of practical utility.

Sri V. Subrahmanya Sastri is a great scholar-translator. He combined great scholarship in astrology and sanskrita with an excellent command over English. Sri V. S. Sastri retired as Asst Secretary to the Govt of Mysore and dedicated most of his life to translating classics of astrology. Most of his translations are more than mere translations as he often included copious explanatory notes and some examples too. His notes are fit to be caled a commentary, though he never claimed them to be so. Sri V. S. Sastri brought out many works and their revised editions.
