According to the Vedas, Parad or mercury is a unique gift from nature. It is one of the most pure and auspicious of metals. It not only has spiritual and religious significance, but has extensive healing properties also. Ayurvedic medicines are prepared from Parad. Medical science acknowledges the power of parad for controlling hyper tension, asthma and enhancing sexual ability.
When mercury, which is impure is purified and consecrated by various processes, it becomes solid and is known as Parad. The classical text Ras Ratna Samuchchaya states that Siddhrase Karishye Nirdraaridrayamagadam Jagat. In other words, if mercury is consecrated and converted into Parad, then all ailments and poverty of the world can be banished. It further says that no herb or mineral is capable of keeping the body always free of diseases. This is because all elements, except Mercury can become wet. The solid form of Mercury is elixir. Pure mercury balls are poisonous and should not be worn. They should be combined with silver and then used. Parad is mercury analgam with other metals.
