Puja is a prayer ritual performed in the morning by Hindus to offer devotional worship to one or more deities, or to spiritually celebrate an event. Puja is the act of showing reverence to God through invocations, prayers, songs and rituals. It is performed either by individuals or by groups and either directly by a worshipper or indirectly by a priest on behalf of the worshipper. As of today, many people take liberties with their methods of worship to express their love and devotion to God in their own individual ways, but traditional pujas in Hinduism follow a structured format. Every aspect of it has a purpose and significance. It helps you concentrate your mind upon God and declare your faith in him in a heightened state of devotion.

According to the Hindu calendar, Karwa Chauth is celebrated on the fourth day after Purnima in the month of Kartik. On this day, married women dress up in new clothes (preferably red which signifies a happy married life) and apply mehendi and shringar ka saam as a part of the festivities. Women observing this fast get together on this day and celebrate it by narrating folk tale, reading Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha and singing folk songs-- all of which make it a very lively festival. Women worship Goddess Parvati in the Karwa Chauth puja followed by Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh and Lord Kartikeya. The fast is later broken after having a glimpse of the moon.
